KMTA Requests Letters of Support for the Alliance of National Heritage Areas

Letters of Support Are Needed

Kenai Mountains-Turnagain Arm National Heritage Area in partnership with the Alliance of National Heritage Areas is requesting letters of support from our partners to ensure National Heritage Areas are considered a mechanism to support economic recovery in our local areas due to COVID-19. There is potentially a fourth stimulus package that Congress is considering that may include funding for national infrastructure projects.

Additionally, the National Park Service has told NHAs that legislative action by Congress is required to waive our matching requirements for FY20/21. Since almost all of our match is realized through the completion of grant projects, the slow down of projects being completed will eventually affect our ability to make our match.

Draft Letter Available Below

A draft letter of support is available below and we are asking partner organizations to sign on in support. Please review our priorities below and sign on today – we appreciate the support!

Additionally, we ask that each of you sign a letter if you feel that you can do so on behalf of your company, organization, or as an individual.

What Does the Letter Ask For?

The letter:

  1. Requests Congress waive NHAs matching requirements for FY 20 and FY 21
  2. Fund National Heritage Areas at our annual requested appropriation of $32 million
  3. Requests movement on Senate Bill 3217, the National Heritage Area Program Bill.

The Alliance is asking each NHA to collect as many letters of support as we can now to put pressure on the issues we have been working on for at least 4 years.

Thank you all for supporting this effort in any way that you can.
