KMTA Added Two New Events in 2021

The summer of 2021 saw two new events for KMTA. One celebrated the Spencer Glacier area and the history of the Alaska Railroad and the other encouraged spending time on all the fabulous trails in the KMTA area.

The Spencer Glacier 5K Dash took place on the Spencer Glacier Overlook Trail after racers caught the train at the Portage Depot. The race course follows the glacier’s recession over the last 100 years and was a hit among participants as everyone enjoyed some majestic scenery after sweating it out on their race to the end. The race was a partnership with Chugach Adventures in Girdwood and the Alaska Railroad. We look forward to the next one coming in Summer 2022.

Another new event was the KMTA Trail Challenge which took place over the course of the summer. Participants were invited to sign up for free and have a chance to win weekly gift cards by sharing their biking, hiking and running on KMTA located trails. The challenge was augmented by a guide that had trail and dining suggestions. One of the missions of KMTA is to recognize the historical aspect of the area – in keeping with that mission the guide also included the museums of the area as well.

We look forward to 2022 and continuing all these events!
