Residents and visitors are drawn to the trails of KMTA, whether a
storied alpine trail like Mount Marathon or a quiet community
connector. To keep these trails in good condition, and to build new
ones, we work with land managers and public organizations to
connect communities and move dirt.
Join and participate in your community trails organizations to keep tabs on local projects and improve trails in your neighborhood. Active trail committees include:
• GIRDWOOD TRAILS COMMITTEE
meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m.
• Whittier Parks and Recreation
• Hope Trails Committee
• COOPER LANDING WALKABLE COMMUNITY PROJECT
• Seward Trailblazers

Help restore the first 120 miles of the original Iditarod Trail (aka “the Southern Trek”). Alaska’s National Historic Trail includes popular routes such as Johnson Pass and hidden gems between forested lakes. KMTA is an active partner in summer Iditarod National Historic Trail (INHT) work parties. Look for upcoming opportunities via Alaska Trails by clicking on the link below.
